A PERFECT FIT
Chapter two ~ Candy is Delicious
"So this is Caritas." Candy looked around in awe. She'd never seen so many demons in one place before. Then there was a green one in a shocking magenta suit right in front of her. She jumped a little.
"Hey Sugar Lips, good to see you," the green thing said as he pulled Spike into a bear hug, then let go quickly and took a long look at her. "Ooh, Spikey, this one is just delish. Most of my contacts are not speaking to me right now, due to Angel Cakes little coup , but when I get back into the game, I can introduce you to some people who would just die over that face, baby. You ever thought about modeling? Maybe a little short for that. How about acting?"
"Candy, this is Lorne. Lorne, Candy." Spike choked back a chuckle at the confused look on Candy's face.
"Candy, Candy, Candy....What did I tell you, delish. A fitting name to be sure."
"It's nice to meet you, Lorne."
Lorne ushered them to a small round table with tall stools. "So tell me, Sugar Lips, is this just a social call or do we get the pleasure of hearing those amazing pipes of yours this evening."
"No singing for me tonight, Your Greenness. Just here for a nice quiet drink. But a reading is not a bad idea. We may be back soon." Spike leaned in closer to Candy. "He's an empath demon. You sing for him and he might be able to point us in the right direction to get the answers you seek." Looking back at Lorne he said, "I love what you did here. Looks a bit like the old place."
"Yeah, well thanks. Had to get back into it with my other gig going up in smoke. I'm loving it, really. I'll just leave you two lovebirds alone. Give me your orders and I'll have Lacer bring them right over."
"So you come here often?" Candy asked playfully when Lorne walked away.
"Actually, I haven't been here since before he reopened last week. Great place though. Good atmosphere and the volume's low enough so people can talk to each other. Until they break out the karaoke that is."
They had a few drinks and were feeling pretty relaxed. "So any way," Spike was saying, "After that last battle in the alley, things quieted down and I've just kind of gone with the flow." In short form, he had told her a bit about his past.
Candy couldn't believe all that he had gone through in his existence. One thing bugged her though. "So why haven't you contacted Buffy? I mean, even if she is seeing this Immortal dork, she doesn't know you are back. Don't you think she'd want to know?" When Spike shook his head she said, "I think she would. I think she'd drop him and take you back."
"Thanks for the vote, luv, but I died to save the world. I was the hero. I was her hero for just a moment in time. I think it best if we just left it there. Seeing her in Rome enjoying herself with the Immortal made me realize that she deserves to go on. Be happy. She never really loved me the way I loved her. We weren't really good to each other until the end there. I'll never forget her, but I've moved on." The music in the background changed to a slow sultry tune. "Speaking of moving, we should dance." He jumped up and offered her his hand. She smiled and reached out to him.
On the small dance floor, he pulled her in close and they moved together. Her head was swimming, being this close to him. His hand was making lazy circles at the small of her back and she pressed closer to him. "What a fool." She didn't mean to say it out loud but there is was.
Spike pulled away slightly and looked down at her. "What's that then? Who's the fool?"
She looked into his eyes. "She's the fool." When he still looked confused, "Buffy. She's the fool for not embracing what you offered."
He smirked at her then. "Well, if she had, I wouldn't be here dancing with you." He pulled her in close again, enjoying the feel of her in his arms.

"Here she is now," Angel said into the phone. He had the blinds open on his office window and he could see them in the lobby. "I'll call you back when I get a chance. Okay. Bye."
"This is a hotel; I'm sure we can find a room for you." Spike was telling her as Angel came into the open space.
Candy looked uncomfortable. "I don't want to put you guys out or anything."
"Oh good," Harmony piped in cheerfully. "There are plenty of nice hotels that I can recommend to you."
"Harm, she's staying here." Spike glared at the blond.
"Just trying to be a help. Gee, I'm so unappreciated around here," Harmony huffed and went up the stairs and out of sight.
"Spike's right. We have plenty of room for you here," Angel spoke as he left his office. "We both have rooms that face north and we can get you set up in one too," He looked at Spike. "We'll need to find that can of black paint for her windows. There is a room on the second floor that I think is ready now."
"What floor are you on, Spike?" Candy asked.
"Angel and I both have suites on the third floor."
"What about ditsy? What floor is she on?"
They heard a gasp from the stairs.
"She's got a suite on the other side." Angel answered with a smile and turned towards the stairs. "You can go find that black paint now, Harmony," he said a bit louder.
"Sure thing bossy."
Angel turned his attention away from the stairs and spoke to Candy. "I just got off the phone with Faith. I’m intrigued. Here I thought I was the only one for so long. Come sit down Candy, and we can discuss some possible leads to get us started on your case," Angel sat down on the couch in the lobby and patted the spot next to him. Gunn and Illyria were coming down the stairs discussing weapons. "Hey guys, come meet Candy, our newest client. I think you'll both find this one interesting."
"Hey Blue," Spike got up and brought her over. "This is Candy. Candy, this is Illyria and this is Gunn."
Illyria stared Candy down. "Hello, vampire."
"Hello," Candy said back cautiously and looked at Spike.
"She was once a powerful demon god, but now she's just our little smurfette. Fights good."
"I'm just your run of the mill human, who is really good at eliminating your kind." Gunn smiled and stepped in to stop Illyria from pulverizing Spike. "I'd say it’s nice to meet you, but ..."
"There'll be no eliminating around here, Charlie. She's got a soul," Spike warned him.
"Well let's take this little meeting into the kitchen then. I'm starved. You all can exist on almost nothing, but a guy’s gotta eat."
Sitting around the table, she told her story to them again for the benefit of Gunn and Illyria.
"I think we should start by finding out about your sire. What can you tell us about him?" Angel asked while fishing in his jacket pocket and pulling out a notepad and pen.
"He had a British accent and wore a British naval uniform. He said his name was Robert Evans."
"Right then, that's a start," Spike encouraged. "What did he look like?"
"He was tall. Brown hair, gray eyes. Clean shaven," she told them without hesitation.
"Ring any bells, Spike?" Angel asked.
"None. At that time I was already in the States, remember.” He glared at Angel. “I didn't go back to meet up with Dru for months after the war ended."
Gunn spoke up. "Guess it's time to go into research mode. I wish Wes was here."
"Yeah. Well he isn't so its up to you gits to figure this out. It's getting close to dawn and it's time for all good vamps to shut down. What says you, Candy? Ready to see your room?" Spike rose up and Candy followed.
"Lead the way."
With that they made their way to the second floor. "Here we are, luv. Not 4 star, but it should do. Let me know if you need anything. I'm in room 302." He stopped at the open door and leaned against the frame. He followed her around the room with his eyes. What a lovely damsel in distress she was. Well as much as a vampire can be in distress that is. She sat on the edge of the bed and gave a little bounce.
"Comfy. You want to try it out?" She raised an eye brow at him.
He stood straight up. "What!"
"Oh, come on. Are you telling me you've never jumped on a bed before?" she asked with a giggle; knowing where his mind had instantly gone.
"I don't jump on beds." He leaned to the side again and did his best to appear disinterested.
She tossed her pumps off and stood on the bed. "Then you are missing out buster." She proceeded to jump, the full skirt of her dress flying up on every down beat.
Could she be trying to seduce him? He hoped so. "I'll take your word for it," he said and he advanced further in to the room.
"Aw, come on. Take off those ugly boots and get up here. When's the last time you did something on the fly just for the heck of it?"
"First of all, these are Doc Martens and they are not...okay maybe they're ugly, but they're me. I'll say good night now. Before I do, I think I'll do something on the fly." He grabbed her and pulled her down off the bed. She stopped laughing when she looked into his eyes. He leaned in, lifted her hair off her shoulder and placed a feather light kiss on her neck.
"Sweet dreams," he whispered in her ear and proceeded to walk out of the room. She stared after him, speechless. He turned back around to grab the door. "By the by, when I do take these boots off for you, it won't be for child's games."
