Last night, I took my eleven year old son with me when I dropped off my oldest daughter to an activity at 6:15.  It was already dark out.  My husband had asked me to go through a drive thru and get him a large Dr. Pepper.  We were going along fine, my son and I having a nice conversation, when I stopped at a red light.  There was a man in the crosswalk.  He was closer to the lane to the right of me, but he was just standing there.

I had a bad feeling about him right away and checked to make sure my doors were locked.   A car whizzed by on the right, barely missing the man as it took a right turn.  I think that set the man off.  He turned and looked at us and then pointed and started yelling at us.  I was thinking, 'oh, great' because the light is notoriously long and I didn't want to get stuck there.

We had all the windows rolled up, but we could hear him yelling.  He starting calling me a f*^&#ing b*$@& and yelling at me to get out of my f*&$%ing car.  He was flaying his hands and making gestures and flipping us off.  He got in front of the car and was practically on my hood.  I warned my son that I may have to run the guy over if he gets any closer.

Being passive wasn't working and I have a tendency towards fight and not flight.  So I start yelling at him and waving my arms, telling him to move out of my way.  The light was still red and no other cars had pulled up beside me.  He started to move to my driver's side but I revved my engine.  He kept telling me to get out of the car and that he was going to hit me.  He finally moved backwards and stepped to the curve, but he was still yelling at me and flipping me off.  It was so crazy.

The light turned, I drove to the restaurant and while in line, I called the police.  They didn't seem too concerned which pissed me off.  I might be away from him, but I worried about the people walking the streets near him.  It was dark but still early.  They did agree to send a car out.

I went home and my son animatedly tells his dad what happened and how the man was being mean to me, calling me names that my son is not allowed to repeat.  My husband takes me aside and he's getting hot under the collar as I'm explaining what happened, so he takes my son and they drove over there for my son to point the man out.

I tried to stop him, but he was so ticked off.  And I worried that my husband would end up getting arrested!

So he drives over there and they watch as a police car just sits across the street from the bus stop where the man is sitting.  They don't do anything and they leave.  The man goes across the street to a fast food restaurant and then as he's jay walking back, my husband drives up right next to him, rolls down his window and says something like, "You think you can talk to my wife that way?" and then he takes the lid off the extra large soda I bought him earlier and throws it at the guys face!  The guy stands there stunned and then my husband drives near the bus stop and waits for him.  My husband calls him over but the guy is wisely staying at the bench.  My husband yells at him and calls him a wimp saying that he'll bully a woman but isn't man enough and fight a man.  The man stayed where he was, so my husband came home.

My son is jumping around saying that he has the coolest dad in the world and my husband is looking a bit sheepish.  But I have to agree with my son.  The man fought for my honor.  LOL!

It was a scary thing and I'm glad all of us are all right.  The man had to be on drugs or something.
