I write poetry.  Not as often as I used to as teen, but sometimes the mood strikes me and so I write.  Every once in a while I will put a poem up.  This one is the very last one I wrote.  It took me ten minutes to type out and I made very few revisions.  In the cut you will find a note and poem that I gave my husband, Mitch last Valentine's Day.

Dear Mitch,

The other day I finally got my ring back from repairs and I have been able to wear it after a few years of missing it. The day after I got it back, I was driving down the road with my hands on the wheel at the 11:00 o’clock and 2:00 o’clock position. I could see my ring, sparkling and reflecting the light of the sun. I started to think of all that my wedding rings mean to me. I was thinking about how its just isn’t about a courtship, shopping for a ring and a wedding. It was so much more. It was about the past with those things mentioned above. It was also about the hear and now. How after almost 15 years of marriage, I can truly say that I’m still very happy. That I feel just as loved now than I did then on the beach that night when you asked me to marry you. My rings also remind me that we still have so much of a bright future ahead of us. That our good times are still ahead. That through any bad times, we will have each other.

I also thought about who you were and what you mean to me. How important you are to me. You are pretty much my everything. Its easy to love you, because you are so good to me. I see my ring and I think about all your good qualities.

This put me in the mood to write a love poem, which I haven’t done in a long time. Not much inspires me to poetry any more. You do. So I had this poem rolling around in my head and being that Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, I decided to sit down and put it into words on paper.

This poem does not nearly encompass all that you are to me, or how great our relationship is. It truly doesn’t do us justice, but it comes from my heart. I love you very much.

This ring it reminds me

Of your proposal not so long ago.

Young, happy. Yes was the word.

This ring it reminds me

Of vows spoken low

Ernest, Strong. Easily Heard

It’s a ring for a beginning, sparkling and new.

Shining bright for a future we’d planned to see through.

Hope and courage, determined and true.

Strong like the diamond held high and proud.

Saying "She’s taken"rather quite loud.

This ring it reminds me

Of your devotion, there abounding always

Unwavering, steadfast. Without fault

This ring it reminds me

Of fidelity, a rarity these days

Trusted, true. Locked in a vault

It’s a ring for the present, better than expected.

Needs cleaning now to be better reflected.

A simple design, never going out of fashion.

A symbol of longevity with unwavering passion.

This ring it reminds me

Of your eyes that adore me.

Gorgeous, Blue. Locked with mine.

This ring it reminds me

Of labor busy as a bee.

Providing, Serving. Always on time.

It’s a ring for a remembrance that I’m not the only one.

That we share a common love for God’s only Son.

The only thing to ever come between us is Him.

We can take comfort in that when our lights go dim.

This ring it reminds me

Of your arms at days end

Gentle, Perfect. I’m content and safe.

This ring it reminds me

Of humor we share my friend

Smiling, Laughing. Our own secret place.

It’s a ring for the future both old and gray.

Us happy together and loving it that way.

A little more gold to stretch out the years.

Up an downs of experience to waylay new fears.
