Chapter Seventeen ~ Harmony's Plan
Natural light filtered into the dim hotel room from the tightly closed curtains. It made her edgy but Candy tried to angle her book so the light would hit it just right. The candle on the table behind her chair had gone out a while ago and she was too lazy to get up and light a new one.
Candy lowered the book and peered over at Spike. He leaned back in his chair with his arms folded, his eyes were closed and he appeared to be relaxed. How he could do that with Angelus rattling on, she didn't know. She was trying to read her novel, but she kept going back to the same paragraph. Angelus had been talking non-stop for almost two hours now. The whole time he struggled to get free. When their prisoner caught her staring at him, she tried to focus on her book again.
A loud boom from the room next door rattled the window. Candy dropped her book and Spike jumped up out of the chair. He went to the wall and knocked. “Are you alright in there, Willow?”
There was no answer. “Willow? What is she doing here?” Angelus asked.
Doors opened and muffled voices filtered in from the hall, then Willow peeked in the room. “Every thing's all right. I was expecting that to happen.” She had black smudges on her face and the acrid scent of burnt hair floated in to the room. “How are things going in here?” she asked as she finally got the nerve to look at Angelus.
“The pillock won't shut his gob.” Spike stretched and sat back down. “You think Buffy would come in here and knock him out again? Oh, wait! I can do it.” He smirked at Angelus.
Willow rolled her eyes and shut the door. Angelus was quiet. The look on his face went from shocked to evil happy. “What?” Spike asked him.
“Buffy? She's here? I thought that smell was familiar. I need to shower,” he told them.
Spike rubbed his forehead. "Why oh why did I have to bring up Buffy?"
Then Angelus started in with the yelling, “Buffy! Buffy? I know you're out there. Was it as good for you this time as it was last time? Lover!”
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Illyria leaned against the wall near the basement door. She was on guard when Harmony opened it and slipped into the lobby. She watched the vampire look around and sniff the air. She quietly made her way to the stairs looking around as if someone was after her.
“What are you doing, half breed?”
“Ah! Don't do that!” Harmony nearly jumped out of skin. She looked around and whispered, “Is the slayer still here?” She crouched down low with her eyes darting all over.
“Yes.”
“I thought so. I need to grab a few things from my room and leave before she sees me,” she told the goddess. “Hey, do you think you could help me carry some things out of here?”
“I can't leave my post until I get an all clear from above,” Illyria said without apology.
“Above? But I thought you were a god? Who do gods answer to?” It was all too confusing for Harmony, this goddess stuff.
“I'm waiting for one of them up stairs to tell me when it’s over. I'm not waiting for a god to speak to me. I answer to no god.” Illyria folded her arms across her chest and glared at the vampire.
“Oh, what's going on and why do you have to guard the basement door?” Harmony asked eager to hear some gossip.
“They are trying to help Angel. The witch is trying to stabilize his soul. I'm guarding the exit into the sewers so that Angelus can't escape, if he gets free. He's tied up in Buffy's room.”
“Wow. Angelus.” Harmony looked up in awe. “I always miss the good stuff. I wasn't around the last two times he came out to play. I wonder what he's like?”
“It doesn't matter. He will be locked away permanently, once Willow is done.”
Harmony was going to say something, but she heard voices. She climbed up the stairs a bit and ducked down. She pleaded with Illyria with her eyes and put her finger her mouth. She could only hope that Illyria would get the idea. She wanted to live to see another night.

“I can't believe I opened my big mouth and told him you were here,” Spike shook his head at Buffy as they came down the other set of stairs.

“I can,” Buffy said and smiled fondly at him. “It's okay, really. In just a couple of hours, we won't have to deal with him anymore.”
“Yeah, but I had to get out of there. If he yelled your name one more time, I was going to stake him. Candy has a lot more patience than I do. She just hit him a few times.”
“She what!” Buffy didn't want Angel all marked up when he was whole again.
“Not too hard. She said it was out of her system now. Your man is in safe hands.”
“To be honest, I would have gone in there and hit him a few times myself. How many times does he plan on yelling my name? Like I'm going to go in there.” She was glad that Spike offered to come down to the kitchen with her. The vampires all needed blood and she could use a diet coke and some chocolate.
Their voices faded as they entered the kitchen. Harmony straightened up and thanked Illyria for not saying anything. “I'll just go get my stuff together and hide until it gets dark,” she told her.
When Harmony got to the landing, she turned right down the hall that led to the other side, instead of going to her room. Change of plans. She just had to see the infamous Angelus. Maybe she could get him free and they could kill the Slayer. It would be nice to not have to live in fear anymore. Sure, there were other slayers out there, but only Buffy had a personal vendetta against her. She wasn't strong enough to fight her on her own. Angelus was strong.
She slinked around the hallways until she heard him yelling for Buffy. She followed his voice as it got closer. She could smell strange incense and other herbs from the room next door. If Willow was in that room, she would have to be quiet. She knocked lightly.
Candy opened the door, “That was quick. Wait. Harmony, what are you doing here?”
Harmony pushed her way into the room and leaned on the door until she heard the soft click of the lock going in place. “I came back to get some of my stuff, but Spike asked me to come up here and help you guard him.” She pointed at Angelus who was covered in row after row of thick black chains.
She wasn't good at subtle, but she tried to tell Angelus with her eyes that she was there to help him. He stared at her curiously, but he didn't get it. He went back to calling for Buffy.
“Hope you have nerves of steel. He keeps doing that and just won't shut up.”
Candy turned her back on Harmony to test the lock on the door. The blond looked around and quickly grabbed the big vase on the table. She didn't have time to remove the fake flowers. She rushed Candy and slammed the vase down on her head. She crumpled to the floor.
Angelus stopped his yelling. “Good shot!”
The blond was dragging Candy to the chair. “Don't stop yelling,” she told him. “They'll know something is going on if you stop all the sudden.”
“Right. Tie her up with those chains,” he told her and pointed to the extra pile of chains that the group had left on the bedside table. “Then find something to stuff in her mouth. We don't want her yelling for help. Go fast. You need to get me untied before Spike gets back.” He started yelling for Buffy again.
Candy came to slowly. Her vision was blurred. She could make out Harmony reaching under the bed. She could hear the chains rattling. She tried to spit the material out of her mouth but something tied around her face and head was keeping it in. Was that a bra? If so, she didn't want to know what was stuffed in her mouth.
She was starting to panic now. She felt stupid for letting Harmony in. If she was able to get Angelus out of those chains, it would be her fault. Angelus was still yelling for Buffy and it was making her head ache even more. She used all her strength but could not move the chains.
Spike was just leaving the kitchen with a pitcher and some cups, when he felt a strange sensation. He pushed back into the kitchen and put the stuff down. “Something is not right, Slayer. We need to get up there now!” The feeling was building in him and he took off running for the stairs. Buffy pulled out her stake and was right behind him.
Illyria started to follow, but Buffy ordered her to stay there, just in case.
In the room, Harmony had just gotten the last chain unhooked from the frame for his right foot. Angelus was frantically trying to get his foot loose. She ran to the door and jumped up and down. “Hurry! Hurry!”
He stood up triumphantly and they shared an evil smile.
“While you look really good as you are, you might want to put something on if we are going to get out of here,” Harmony advised him. His broad chest looked so lickable. It would be a shame to cover it up.
“I'm not going anywhere. I have to thank the ones who brought me back.” He threw open the closet doors. It was all Buffy's stuff, except for Spike's duster. He was sick with the thought of putting anything Little Willie owned on his back, but he had no choice. He went to grab it but jumped back when the door burst open with the lock splitting and cracking. Harmony disappeared behind the open the door.
Spike was the first one in and he vamped out at the sight of his girl tied up in chains and growled low. Buffy took one look at him and took charge. “Get her untied, I've got him.”
In the confusion, they didn't see or sense Harmony hiding behind the door. She thought about helping Angelus, but the thought of fighting Buffy or Spike scared her silly. Cautiously, she edged around the door and took off at full speed down the hall. She slowed when she realized they weren't following. Casually, she walked down the stairs.
Illyria kept her eyes on Harmony as she leaned against the basement door.
“You know," Harmony said. "I think I'll just come back later tonight. There is something going on up there and I'd rather not be around.” Illyria stared at her with unblinking, ice blue eyes. “Please Illyria. If Buffy sees me, I'm dead. We have a past and she's been out to get me for years.” She sighed in relief when Illyria stepped aside. She didn't even stop to say thank you. She had to get out of there.
~*~*~*~
Spike went right to work getting Candy's chains undone. It would take all three of them to get Angelus back in his own chains without having to kill him.
Angelus smiled at Buffy as he backed away from her. “Lover. I was beginning to think that you weren't going to come and see me. I was getting the impression that this was just a one night stand and that you had used me.” He put on a fake pout. “You're still a dull lay. So not too upset here. Please next time you get the urge, go find some other poor male to scratch your itch. You may have to pay him, but get a receipt. I'll pay you back. Anything if you stay away from my body.”
Buffy sighed and rolled her eyes. It was annoying, but if she could just keep him talking, maybe Willow could have time to complete the ritual and she wouldn't have to fight him.
“Does he ever shut up?” Candy stood up and asked. She rubbed her head. “Harmony did this. I was stupid enough to think she was telling the truth when she said you guys sent her up to help guard him.”
Spike kept his eye on Angelus but hugged her tight. “It's alright. I should have never left you alone with him.” He morphed back to his human form when she hugged him back.
“Look at Little Willie. Even he went out and found something better.” He focused on Candy. “You sure are a hot little number. I bet you could teach him a few things. That offer still stands, if you want to get out of here.”
Candy chuckled. “Sorry but your not my type. You'd have to tie me up and drag me out of here.”
“That can be arranged and I just might do it. I'd have you begging for it in fifteen minutes.” He smiled at her suggestively.
“Make him shut up, Slayer,” Spike warned. "Before I break his neck."
He was getting to Buffy, too. It was not easy for her to stand there and watch the body, face and voice of the love of her life offering to go away with someone else. She wasn't as insecure as she was as a teen, so his taunts about her love making skills just went over her head. Spike praised her over and over again during their “affair” and he just couldn't lie well enough to keep that up for so many months.
“Let the wind bag blow,” she told Spike. “More time for Willow.” She looked over her shoulder at Spike and gave him a pointed look.
“Oh my goddess!” Willow said when she surveyed the scene from the door. Her hand trembled as she brought it to her face. The powerful witch, who saved the world with one spell, became the timid schoolgirl as she stared in horror at the unchained Angelus. “I heard all this noise...and...and...help.”
“It's alright, Willow,” Buffy told her, while keeping her eyes on Angelus. “How much time do you need to do that thing?”
Angelus stared at Willow like the cat that ate the canary and it was giving her the willies. “Uh, that thing?” Her brain was turning to mush. “Oh, yes that thing! I need an hour.”
“Go faster, Red. I don't know if we can hold him here that long.”
Candy and Spike were closing in on him. He was on the other side of the bed, and they had him boxed in unless he tried something stupid and jumped out the window and into the sunlight.
“I'll try, but these things can't be rushed too much,” Willow said before she ran from the room.
“What is going on?” Angelus yelled. “What does she need an hour for? What are you doing to me?” He looked directly at Buffy and advanced towards her. He was suddenly feeling the need to be gone from here. He could come back later when he had a plan in place. A plan filled with lots of torture.
Spike saw his intentions and made his own move. He tried to grab for his arms, but Angelus was much quicker. It was one thing to fight Angel; it was another thing altogether to get into it with a desperate Angelus.
Angelus had to go for the weakest one. Buffy was stronger, he knew, so he charged at Spike and knocked him back. Buffy was upon him quick and he roared as he pushed her and she flew into the wall.
Spike was already up, but Angelus leaped over the bed and grabbed Candy. She was no match for him for she was weak with a head injury and he had almost two hundred years on her. His arm was like a vise and he had a leg wrapped around hers. He grabbed her head and moved his other hand up to her shoulders.
“Make one move, either of you, and I rip her head clean off,” Angelus warned. He wasn't easily keeping her pinned to him. Candy was putting up quite a fight and he could barely keep upright.
Spike saw red and white flashes as his demon went into overload at the sight of Angelus with his hands on Candy, but it gave him an idea. He wouldn't be able to hold Candy very long. Looking at Buffy and the back at Angelus, he decided to take a gamble. Angelus protested too much when it came to Buffy. The demon had it bad for her just as much as Angel did. He just knew it and now was the perfect time to test that theory.
He moved across the bed and stood with Buffy. “Look, no need for violence here. Besides,” He said as he put his arm around Buffy. She stared at him with one eye open. “I think Buffy and I need to get reacquainted. It’s been so long.” He watched the flicker of gold come and go in Angelus' eyes. Oh yes, this was working.
After all those years working with Spike, Buffy caught on quick. “Oh Spike,” she said. “I miss all those tender kisses and those nights on my porch when you would just hold me.”
Spike knew for sure that she got the idea, because tender kisses and snuggles on her porch. He almost broke character. The need to laugh at the visual image was just too strong. Buffy stroked his cheek lightly and sighed. He pulled her closer to him and kissed her forehead.
That was all it took for Angelus to vamp out and charge Spike with a roar. “Get your hands off her!”
Candy stumbled, but came after Angelus. She flew onto his back just as Spike swipe kicked his legs out from under him. They landed in a heap. Candy had him pinned as she sat on his waist. Spike dove and landed on his legs. Buffy threw herself down into a sitting position onto his shoulders. Angelus grunted with each new weight on him. He couldn't move except to turn his head from side to side.
It was silent in the room except for Buffy's heavy breathing. Candy watched as Buffy and Spike's eyes met and they shared a cute little smile. She wanted to be sick. “What the hell was that all about?” She looked from one to the other, waiting for an answer.
Spike joked, “Tender kisses and snuggles on the porch?” They both giggled.
“Hey,” Candy told them. “New girlfriend right here, people.” She couldn't believe them.
“I'm sorry, Candy,” Buffy said between laughs. “That stuff never happened.”
Spike added, “Yeah, sorry hun. It was more like busted noses, broken furniture and bruised body parts.”
“Oh, then you have nothing to be sorry for.”
“The demon is just as bad for it as Angel,” Buffy said in wonder.
“I thought so. I knew he'd go crazy if I touched what he claimed as his.”
“I guessed that that was what you were doing. It worked too. Who knew? But seriously, nothing of me belongs even remotely to Angelus.”
He could barely get in a breath to speak with, but Angelus protested weakly, “You are mine. Nobody touches you but me.”
“That threat kind of sounds flat with you squashed to the floor and all,” Spike told him dryly.
The three of them were smiling when Willow came to the door. “Now that's a weird sight.”

“Yeah, Red. Could you hurry it up? This is not comfortable.”

Willow cocked her head and looked a bit closer. She broke into a smile. “Looks like a very strange game of twister, but we're going to need to turn him over.”

She pulled out a small, plain wooden box from her bag and opened it carefully. Inside was a clear purple glass ball with a faint glowing light. “I was able to finish much faster when I had the right motivation. This thing is very fragile. I need to smash it on his chest. It's gonna hurt him and maybe even cut him a little, but he'll live and all this will be over.”

It took some doing but they were able to get him on his back. He was fighting like mad. Whatever was in that purple ball, Angelus knew he didn't want it.
